Abuko Nature Reserve

This reserve is very rich in flora and fauna, partly forest and partly savannah.

Bao Bolon Wetland Reserve

This is the largest reserve in The Gambia: over 200 square kilometres. Here you find a salt marsh which is a refuge for a lot of birds.

Kiang West National Park

This reserve is over 100 square kilometres situated on the southern bank of the River Gambia. More than 50% of animal species of The Gambia can be seen here. The reserve contains mangrove forest, creeks, salt pans and dry woodland, access requires some effort, but is worthwhile.

Makasutu Culture Forest

A small reserve but one of the nicest eco-tourism areas. It is near Brikama on the banks of the Mandina Bolon (river). Here you find many species of birds but also: butterflies, baboons, lizards, crocodiles, etc.

Tanji Bird Reserve

This is a small reserve near Kotu Bridge area. It contains beaches, tidal lagoons, mangrove swamp, coastal vegetationand dry savannah.

Yundum

The area around the airport Yundum now is agricultural but it is still an interesting place to spot birds. Old Yundum is the better place for birwatching. Just walking around in the neighbourhood of the town you will be able to see a great variety of birds.

Brufut Woodland

This is a relatively unknown place. It is a rather open area of woodland where one can easyly see a large number of different birds.

Bund Road

This has long been a bird paradise for ornithologists world wide. The road runs along a large area of tidal mud alive with (sea) birds.

Cape Creek

An area of salt marsh, mangroves, and open water. It is an excellent place to see birds. Depending on the tide large areas are exposed and many waders can be seen.

Cycle Track

This is abirding site where lots of birds can be spotted, including relatively rare birds.

Fajara Golf Course

This golf course is a very good place to watch birds, it borders the Kotu Stream. This stream is one of the first spots in The Gambiafor visited by birdlovers.

Faraba-Banta Bush Track

This is a quiet 10 kilometre sandy bush track which runs through cultivated areas, parkland savannah and woodland savannah. All year round you can see birds of prey along other birds.

Georgetown

The city of Janjangbureh was known as 'Georgetown', it is situated on an island in the Gambia River. This area is a popular stop for birdspotters travelling east.

Kampant Rice Fields

This area is situated on the Trans-Gambia Highway and can also be visited travelling up country. Ponds retain water most of the time and deserve a short visit to watch for birds of prey and other small birds.
